It's nice and short and an absolute blast. If you're a fan of Spidey and have a PSP, I really recommend giving this one a go. He somehow managed to look cool even as a low poly PS1 character model. The presentation and voice acting from the cartoon all translate so well here. You'll be throwing furniture at Scorpion, playing matador with Rhino and perhaps my favorite, fighting an enlarged version of Mysterio. They're kept relatively straightforward but it still manages to be engaging. It may seem rather elementary today but I thought it was still astonishing for a PS1/N64 game. Early in the game is a helicopter attack sequence where you're dodging missiles and bullets as Spidey as columns crumble around you. You really don't see stuff like this in an early 3D title, let alone done so well. One thing that really impressed me were all the action set pieces. The camera is always tied to where Spidey is facing but sometimes it won't shift in time. My only gripe were there were a few instances where Spidey would control a little janky with the camera failing to keep up. And the web swinging and crawling all comes pretty naturally. The combat is pretty simple but still really satisfying. There is so much that could have gone wrong but they absolutely nailed Spidey in terms of movement, as well as the presentation. And playing on a handheld really helped too as I was able to just pick up the game here and there between Christmas shopping.įor one, it can't be stressed enough how well this game has aged for an early 3D action title.
It's been so long since a game has managed to capture me so quickly like that. It's not a super long game, maybe 6-7 hours but I really wasn't expecting that. To my great surprise, I was so enthralled that I actually managed to beat the entire game today.
SPIDER MAN 2000 PS1 PSP
Today, rather than beating the N64 version, I remembered I have my PSP which can play PS1 games. The N64 version is still a great game but definitely an inferior experience as it's missing the FMV cutscenes, some of Spideys quips and a lot of the graphics on some levels are much darker and lose some of the vibrance of the PS1 version. So I been on a Spidey kick recently after seeing No Way Home and decided to bust out my N64 last night to play the 2000 Spider-Man game.
